Working closely with stakeholders and the UK Military to help deliver a successful memorial event in Normandy.

Attended by 2,300 guests of the Royal British Legion with 40 D-Day veterans and VVIPs, the planning was down to the detail and especially working with the UK Military. The event was broadcast live, with BBC teams delivering full coverage of the event.

To ensure things went to plan, we worked with local agencies and security teams across the local area.

A large technical element in the form of 120+ metre ground support, projection, 126 metres of LED stage and grandstand seating for 10,600 people all indoors was a challenge for this project. Time spent pre production managed to identify and eliminate keys risks. The delivery took over 8 days on round the clock build with day and night teams working well together to put this in place.

Staff welfare was very important, especially ensuring that people had the opportunity to rest between shifts and were looked after whilst on site. Both production teams did a really good job of managing their teams and contractors to keep people fresh and productive each day.

We provided support to an excellent Jack Morton production team for Ericsson at this years Mobile World Congress event, held in Fira, Barcelona.

The Jack Morton team brought us in early enough to be on top of the project before getting on to site and with the support of the technical director and production manager we were able to support the whole project and liaise with contractors to help deliver a safe event.

The event took place in November but we started working with the team in July planning for the event.

The venue was new to us: Taets Arts and Event Space and the Heineken Experience, so liaising with both venues was important. Extensive capacity calculations and audience management were also required in addition to the usual event safety provision.

There were several challenges ensuring the event spaces were sufficient size and safe to use, and the production teams did a great job making the spaces look great, and safe for the attendees.

A healthy supply of Stroop waffles was essential in helping us get through the 12 days on-site.

Our 3rd VMware Explore with the Jack Morton Team. It’s bigger and better than 2022 as things recover back to pre-COVID ways.

This year, a dedicated event control was used to great effect, consolidating processes and providing a central focal point for event departments to communicate with and streamline response to requests and issues so that things were dealt with quickly before becoming a problem.

This was a great event with lots to tell, but not on here. Grab a brew with Chris and ask him about it next time you see him.

We returned to Cannes for a second year to work with some old and new faces on the beach.

Tony and Mark provided the on-site safety for the duration of the project, with Chris and Tony producing the event documentation and plans for the project.

The weather and in particular the strong winds and occasional thunderstorms tested our plans but enabled the project to operate safely, and there were only a few occasions where Tony and Mark had to pause the load in due to adverse weather.

On Site: Chris Burke and Joe Bettell

We worked closely from the beginning of the project with Andy Peat and his team looking at how we manage the safety for a 24-hour load in and load out on a beach in the South of France. There were challenges, with crane operations being carried out from a highway and over onto the beach in order to supply the equipment to build the event.

The superb logistical and technical organisation from Andy and his team allowed this process to happen seamlessly each night, and during the day, in 35˚C temperatures, the crews worked hard to deliver the event.

Welfare was key to ensuring that all crew were well looked after and had access to everything they need for them to deliver their elements of the project, to specification, on time and safely.

Hopefully, we will be back in 2023!

Rock Safely provided pre-event and on-site safety services and was involved in the planning, build, delivery and de-rig for this event.

The event consisted of several small stages and a main stage in the arena for various live presentations that were broadcast. In addition, there were over 70 demo games consoles installed for attendees to get hands-on with new games reales.

The event was held over three days with 2800 gamers attending each day.

We were part of a larger event management team involved in the build, event and break for this fantastic family festival set in the beautiful surroundings of Henham Park.

The build took approximately three weeks, and we managed the build and break safety with the team from Festival Republic on site, switching into an Event Safety role during the event.

There are challenges with this event, from the many trees on site that need to be checked and managed, the bugs which love people in hi-viz, the many structures that are built, working on and near water, and bridge building. Many different aspects to health and safety. A great event to be part of and plenty to learn from.

The event runs over three days and is attended by 35,000 people.
